How the figures on this page work

Each figure on this page is the latest the relevant statistics office had published at the point pitforex last updated it, shown with the period it covers, the date it was released and the body that published it.

A figure is out of date from the moment it is published. It stays as published here until pitforex next updates it, even where the publisher later revises the series.

Why the date and publisher are given with every figure

Inflation, jobs and growth figures are released once, on a fixed schedule, by a single named body: the Office for National Statistics, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Eurostat and others, depending on the figure. Giving the release date and the publisher alongside each number lets a reader go back to the original release.

pitforex publishes market information and commentary only; the page gives no advice and recommends no trade.

Inflation

This part of the page holds the latest official inflation figures for the UK, the US and the euro area, each taken from the statistics office responsible for it.

UK consumer price inflation

The Office for National Statistics reported UK consumer price inflation (CPI) at 3.1% in the 12 months to August 2026. The release is dated 16 September 2026.

US consumer prices

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported US consumer prices (CPI-U) up 3.4% in the 12 months to August 2026. The release is dated 11 September 2026.

Euro area inflation

Eurostat put euro area annual inflation at 3.8% for September 2026, on its flash estimate published 2 October 2026. A flash estimate is an early reading, produced before all the underlying data are in, and Eurostat can revise it once they are.

Each of these figures was current on the date its publisher released it and has very likely been superseded since. Check the Office for National Statistics, the Bureau of Labor Statistics or Eurostat directly before relying on any of them.

Jobs

This part of the page holds the latest jobs figures for the UK and the United States, each tied to the official release that set it.

UK unemployment rate

The UK unemployment rate was 4.9% for the three months to July 2026, the Office for National Statistics reported on 15 September 2026.

US unemployment rate and payrolls

The US unemployment rate was 4.2% in September 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on 2 October 2026. The same release showed US nonfarm payrolls rising by 29,000 that month.

UK growth

This section records the latest measure of how the UK economy grew from one quarter to the next.

UK gross domestic product grew 0.5% in the second quarter of 2026, April to June, compared with the first quarter, the Office for National Statistics reported on 30 September 2026.

That figure stood as the latest reading at the point of publication. The Office for National Statistics revises and updates this series on its own schedule, so it is worth checking their release directly before relying on it for anything time-sensitive.
